BRS in Hyderabad is facing a crisis as several of its MLCs are thinking about leaving the party to join Congress. It is rumored that once they switch parties, they will merge the legislative wing of BRS with Congress.
The Legislative Council has 40 members, with Congress only having six members. Congress needs at least 14 more members to have a majority in the Council, which is important for passing bills smoothly. AIMIM has two members, BJP has one, and there are also four nominated members with two vacant seats. Congress would need around a dozen more members if AIMIM decides to support them.
During recent sessions, BRS MLC K Kavitha tried to remove negative comments about party chief K Chandrashekar Rao in a resolution. The Council Chairman asked her to withdraw the amendment to avoid a constitutional crisis. This is why Congress is working towards gaining a majority in the House.
Senior Congress leaders like K Keshava Rao, K Jana Reddy, and another top leader are reportedly persuading BRS MLCs to join their party. They have been in talks with former Congress members who switched parties in the past, as well as other potential new members. The Congress party aims to complete this merger process within a week.
