Mancherial: District Collector Kumar Deepak praised Maharshi Valmiki, the creator of the epic Ramayana and the first poet (Adikavi), for showing that anyone can achieve great things if they are determined. He made these remarks during the Valmiki Jayanti celebration, organized by the District Backward Classes Welfare Department at the Collectorate on Thursday. Additional Collector (Revenue) Sabavat Mothilal also attended the event. Together, they paid respect to Maharshi Valmiki by garlanding his portrait and lighting a ceremonial lamp.
During his speech, the District Collector explained that the Ramayana teaches important lessons about how a king should rule and how people should live under that rule. It also provides guidance on family relationships, like how parents and children should treat each other. He emphasized that Valmiki’s contributions to Telugu literature are unforgettable. Valmiki, born into the Boya tribe, transformed into a sage and composed the epic Ramayana, which consists of 23,000 verses and 7 books (Kandas). This made the Ramayana the first literary epic in history.
Collector Kumar Deepak also called Maharshi Valmiki an inspiring figure for everyone and encouraged people to follow the path of great leaders by practicing good behavior. The event was attended by District Scheduled Castes Development Officer B. Vinod Kumar, district officials, heads of various departments, and leaders from the Valmiki community, among others.
