Residents of Karwan, Golconda, and Langar Houz have been facing numerous problems for a long time. These include unfinished projects, bad roads filled with encroachments, overflowing sewage, and improper sanitation. It’s surprising that these issues have not been addressed for 75 years.
Karwan has a rich history dating back to the Nizam rule. It was known for its diamond and pearls market and still has old buildings, temples, and mosques from that period. Inside Karwan, there are a few old buildings that were famous for handloom clothes. During the Qutab Shahi era, it was a commercial hub with many businesses and inns for travelers.
While Karwan used to be a major suburb, it is now located in the heart of the city, about 10 kilometers away from IT hubs like Gachibowli and HITECH city. However, it is now referred to as ‘Machar Colony’ due to its neglected state.
Karwan has a diverse population with Hindus and Muslims living together. Various religious festivals are celebrated in this region. Despite its historical significance, Karwan has been neglected in terms of civic issues, infrastructure development, health facilities, and sanitation. Locals are disappointed with the current AIMIM candidate and feel that nothing has changed in the past 75 years. The lack of roads, encroachments, sewage overflow, and absence of civic amenities and heritage conservation are major concerns.
The residents of Karwan compare their constituency to the developed area of Tolichowki which is just 200 meters away. They feel that the public representatives do not address their needs and they are left with no choice but to elect AIMIM leaders. This time, there might be a possibility of more people choosing NOTA (None Of The Above) as their option.
The frequent overflowing of drains in Langar Houz has led to the threat of waterborne diseases. Land mafia has played a major role in encroachments in areas like MD lines, Langar Houz, and Hakeempet. Even the present MLA’s house is in a neglected state.
The areas of Ziaguda, Karwan, Langar Houz, and Golconda have been waiting for infrastructure development. While some areas like Tolichowki and Nanal Nagar have seen 30% development, Karwan suffers from flooding during the monsoon and overflowing drains in other seasons.
Additionally, the colonies in these areas are known as ‘Macchar Colony’ due to the mosquito menace residents have to deal with.
