Neglect at Nagarkurnool Primary Health Centre Sparks Outrage

In Thoodukurthy village of Nagarkurnool mandal, negligence by district health officials is causing distress among residents. The Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the village was found locked before its scheduled closing time on Tuesday, with staff, including the doctor, leaving early.

Villagers expressed their frustration, claiming this has been a recurring issue for several days. They alleged that only ASHA workers are present to open the health centre, while outpatient (OP) services are available only when the doctor chooses to come.

Thoodukurthy is not just any village—it is one of the largest gram panchayats in the district, with a population of nearly 10,000 people. It is also the native village of both the Nagarkurnool MLA and MLC. Villagers are now questioning how such negligence can occur in the home village of prominent leaders and fear that the situation might be even worse in more remote areas of the district.

Despite the government’s substantial investments in building hospitals, medical colleges, and appointing staff, a lack of monitoring by senior officials is leading to such issues. Villagers pointed out that some PHCs are closing even before noon, forcing dozens of patients to travel to the district hospital in Nagarkurnool for treatment due to the absence of doctors and medical staff.

Residents are urging authorities to take strict action against absentee medical staff and ensure that health services are properly managed. They hope for immediate intervention to bring justice and improve the healthcare system in the region.
