BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has announced that his party plans to approach the Supreme Court if the Speaker does not act promptly on petitions seeking the disqualification of MLAs who defected to other parties. His comments follow a recent ruling by the High Court Division Bench that addressed these disqualification petitions.
KTR pointed out that there is an ongoing argument about whether courts can compel the Speaker to act on such matters. However, he referred to the observation made by the High Court Chief Justice, who emphasized the need for timely decisions on these cases. KTR also cited the Supreme Court’s ruling in the Manipur case, which set a three-month deadline for resolving such petitions.
The issue revolves around petitions filed by BRS MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and KP Vivekananda Goud, as well as BJP leader Yeleti Maheshwar Reddy. They are seeking the disqualification of MLAs Kadiyam Srihari, Danam Nagender, and Tellam Venkat Rao, who are associated with the BRS party. The outcome of these petitions could play an important role in shaping the political dynamics of the region.
