The working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), KT Rama Rao, has criticized the BJP-led Union government for withdrawing the Interpol Red Corner Notice (RCN) against Mehul Choksi, who is the main accused in the Punjab National Bank loan fraud case. In his statement, KTR questioned whether there was a special exemption for fraudsters from Gujarat.

KTR took to Twitter to express his opinion on the matter. He referred to Mehul Choksi as “Mehul Choksi Bhai” and compared him to Raja Satya Harishchandra’s cousin who committed a small bank fraud of Rs. 13,500 crore and was given a NoC to travel without any consequences.

The withdrawal of the Interpol RCN against Mehul Choksi has raised several questions about the Indian government’s commitment to bringing economic offenders to justice. The move has been criticized by several opposition leaders and citizens who believe that it sets a bad precedent and sends the wrong message to other economic offenders.

It remains to be seen how the Indian government will respond to these criticisms and what steps it will take to ensure that economic offenders are brought to justice.
