Warangal: K T Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), criticized the Congress party for not fulfilling promises made to the backward classes (BCs) under its ‘BC Declaration.’ Speaking to the media in Hanumakonda on Sunday, he said it has been a year since the Congress announced the declaration, but no promises have been kept by the Revanth Reddy government.
KTR highlighted that many traditional occupations, such as sheep and fish rearing, which received support during the KCR regime, are now being ignored. He further criticized Congress for failing to implement existing welfare schemes like Dalit Bandhu, BC Bandhu, and Rythu Bandhu.
KTR also brought up the ongoing caste census in Telangana, accusing Congress of using it for political gain, particularly in Maharashtra, which is preparing for elections. He pointed out that instead of focusing on implementing a 42% quota for BCs in Telangana, Congress is more concerned with gaining political mileage elsewhere.
Demanding action, KTR said the BRS wants local body elections to be held only after the 42% quota for BCs is officially announced. He also questioned the accuracy of the current census, expressing doubts about whether it is properly collecting income and asset details from the people.
KTR criticized the Congress for making many promises in the BC Declaration but failing to allocate sufficient funds to fulfill them. He pointed out that Congress had promised to allocate Rs 20,000 crore but only set aside Rs 8,000 crore in the budget.
He also ridiculed Congress’ other promises such as fee reimbursement, scholarships, interest-free loans up to Rs 10 lakh, and the creation of gurukul schools and degree colleges in every mandal, saying these have not been fulfilled. KTR further mocked the Congress for not filling all 18 ministerial positions in its cabinet, despite being in power for almost a year, and questioned their promise to create a special ministry for the welfare of Most Backward Classes (MBCs).
KTR also raised concerns about promises made to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under the SC/ST Declaration, which Congress announced in Chevella, saying they too remain unfulfilled.
Several prominent leaders were present during KTR’s media interaction, including former chief whip D Vinay Bhaskar, former ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Thatikonda Rajaiah, Satyavathi Rathod, former Speaker Sirikonda Madhusudana Chary, and other notable figures.
