    Hyderabad Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao has instructed officials to take steps to prevent loss of life. In a tele-conference with Municipal Administration Department officials and Additional Collectors from Hyderabad, the Minister also visited Tank Bund to assess the rising water levels in the reservoir.

    The Minister emphasized that the primary priority for the municipal department officials should be to prevent loss of life. They were instructed to be vigilant in low-lying areas and take additional relief measures in towns where floodwaters have receded. Immediate evacuation of people from unsafe buildings was also stressed.

    Speaking to the media, Rama Rao mentioned that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was regularly reviewing the heavy rains in the state and had spoken to municipal department officials. All municipal employees in Hyderabad were working tirelessly, with their holidays cancelled. Precautionary measures had been taken so far to avoid any loss of life, and the main objective was to continue doing so.

    The Minister highlighted the government’s efforts in response to the red alert for Hyderabad, including completing the desilting program and strengthening ponds. Gates had been installed in 135 ponds, and the Disaster Response Force was working extensively. The Nala Development Programme had contributed to reducing flood impact compared to previous years.

    Rama Rao called on opposition parties to refrain from political criticism and instead focus on actions that benefit the people affected by heavy rains. He stressed that all government departments were working together to tackle the rain, including alerting citizens in flood-prone areas, establishing control rooms, and setting up temporary shelters. Constant monitoring of closed flood areas and disease prevention measures would be implemented once the rains subsided. The Minister also mentioned the possibility of visiting Warangal on Friday if necessary.
