The KRMB (Krishna River Management Board) is holding a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the management of the Nagarjuna Sagar project. The meeting will include officials from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The outcome of the meeting is uncertain.

For the past week, AP officials have been trying to release water from the project’s right canal, but it has been blocked by CRPF forces. On Monday, the board intervened and released water to AP.

The meeting on Tuesday has become a priority due to the ongoing situation. A previous meeting, chaired by the Secretary of the Union Hydropower Department, was postponed multiple times due to various reasons.

On Monday morning, a conflict arose regarding the release of water allocated to AP in the Nagarjuna Sagar project. AP officials attempted to release 5 TMC of water, but Telangana authorities prevented it.

In response, KRMB members visited the project and released water to AP by lifting gates number five and seven.

According to the Andhra Pradesh Repartition Act, the management of the Nagarjuna Sagar project is temporarily under Telangana. However, before the Telangana assembly elections, engineers from Telangana, accompanied by AP police, took control of the project and released water.

To address the escalating situation, the Union Home Secretary held a meeting with the Chief Secretaries and high officials of both states. It was decided that the project’s management should be temporarily handed over to KRMB until further orders.
