The KRMB has begun the process of managing projects on River Krishna. They have requested permission from the CRPF to operate and maintain the Nagarjuna Sagar dam with the help of the Telangana Government. The Board officials identified areas needing repairs during a visit to the dam in March. They need to complete certain repair works before the monsoon, like replacing electrical system control panels and cables.
The Board has been waiting for approval from the CRPF to start the repair works. As per the AP Reorganization Act 2014, projects under Krishna are under CRPF security control. The Centre recently deployed forces at project sites to ensure security.
In efforts to effectively manage water resources in Krishna, the board has asked the Telangana government for funds to install telemetry systems. Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have agreed to install these systems to improve water accounting and benefit both states.
The Board faced funding challenges in the previous financial year for phase-2 works on telemetry systems. However, administrative approval for Rs 6.25 crore was granted, and the board has requested the release of funds from the government. The telemetry system will be installed at various points along the Nagarjuna Sagar left Main canal and Palair upstream.
Officials aim to have the telemetry system installed before the monsoon this year. This will help with studying water utilization and managing water resources effectively from this year onwards.
