One of the leaders of the Telangana movement, Prof M Kodandaram, and senior journalist Amer Ali Khan have been chosen as MLCs (Members of Legislative Council) under the Governor’s quota. The names of these two candidates were approved by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, after considering their background and seeking legal advice. The previous names suggested by the BRS government were rejected due to their political affiliations. Initially, there was hesitation in approving Prof Kodandaram’s name because he was associated with a political party called Telangana Praja Samithi (TJS). However, legal experts clarified that he was primarily a social activist and played a significant role in the Telangana movement. Prof Kodandaram was the Chairman of Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) for over a decade. He is also a former professor of Political Science at Osmania University. In the recent Assembly elections, his political party supported the Congress and he was part of the strategy committee against the BRS government. Amer Ali Khan, son of Siasat Urdu daily Chairman Zahed Ali Khan, is the first choice of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for an MLC position under the Governor’s quota.
