Questions have been raised about the ongoing work on the third TMC component of the Kaleshwaram project. The Union Jala Sakti Ministry appointed an NDSA team to review the project’s progress.

The State may have to bear a huge cost of Rs 30,000 crore if the third TMC works are allowed to continue. Advisor to the Union Jal Sahakti Ministry, Sriram Vadire, expressed surprise over the continuation of the works despite recent issues related to the project.

The third TMC component is considered unnecessary, as it is planned to lift water for 96 days to irrigate 18.25 lakh acres of new command area. The BRS suggested lifting the same amount of water in 65 days, without adding any additional storage or command area.

The CWC and GRMB have not approved the third TMC component, citing lack of justification for the additional cost. Despite these concerns, the State government has continued with the project, even after being informed of the objections raised.
