Hyderabad: Union Minister and Telangana BJP chief, G Kishan Reddy, urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to focus on building houses for the poor instead of demolishing them. He pointed out that since Revanth Reddy became the Chief Minister, not a single house has been constructed for the poor.
Speaking to the media after completing the Basti Nidra programme in the Music catchment area on Sunday, Kishan Reddy criticized the ongoing demolition of homes. He stated, “This is not justice. A change in approach is needed. We will not allow a single house to be demolished, even if a hundred bulldozers are used.” He also appealed to the Chief Minister to reconsider the house demolition plan and suggested building retaining walls along the Musi River to protect the homes of the poor.
Kishan Reddy questioned whether the Revanth government had enough resources for such projects. He asked, “Will Sonia Gandhi allocate Rs 1.5 lakh crores for Musi beautification? Will Rahul Gandhi provide it?” He emphasized that the beautification project should also include financial support for poor women working from home.
The Union Minister further requested the state government to withdraw the demolition plan, stating that the Chief Minister should prioritize the protection of the people. He emphasized the emotional and physical toll that demolishing homes causes, questioning whether such actions are justifiable.
Kishan Reddy clarified that the BJP is not against the beautification of the Musi River. Instead, they support the construction of retaining walls where necessary. However, he stressed that the houses of poor individuals should not be destroyed in the process.
He also reminded Revanth Reddy that many of these homes were built during the previous Congress government, representing the spirit of democracy and the Indiramma initiative.
