Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, G Kishan Reddy, has urged the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal, to procure 15 lakh MT of parboiled rice from Telangana during this Kharif Marketing Season (KMS). Reddy highlighted that the Centre’s continued support for Telangana’s farmers is evident as a large number of farmers have benefited from the procurement operations of the Department of Food and Public Distribution under the ministry.
In a letter addressed to Goyal on Sunday, Reddy emphasized that the number of farmers who have benefited from procurement operations in Telangana has increased from 5.35 lakh in 2015-2016 KMS to over 20 lakh in the previous KMS. This increase in numbers is a testament to the Modi government’s commitment to farmer welfare.
Reddy has urged Goyal to consider procuring 15 Lakh MT of parboiled rice from Telangana during the current KMS season, in line with the pro-farmer-centric measures of the Centre.
