Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, has reaffirmed the Central government’s commitment to improving railway infrastructure in Telangana. He emphasized the importance of public support and cooperation from the State government in achieving this goal.
During his visit to Begumpet Railway Station on Saturday, he inspected modernization works and announced that the station would be fully dedicated to women. He also stated that free Wi-Fi would be available at all railway stations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the modernization of several stations, including Begumpet, Cherlapalli, Medchal, Yakutpura, Nampally, Kacheguda, and Ladhonagar.
Kishan Reddy urged the State government to provide land for access roads to these railway stations. He assured that all modernized stations would have world-class facilities, similar to international airports. The first phase of the Begumpet Railway Station project, costing Rs 26 crore, is almost complete, with only 5 to 10 percent of beautification work remaining.
The second phase of the project will begin soon, with an additional Rs 12 crore allocated for further improvements. He also mentioned that the station’s operations, including security and administrative roles, would be handled entirely by women.
The Union Minister highlighted that cleanliness and beautification efforts at railway stations are being carried out under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. He added that Telangana has launched modernization projects worth Rs 5,337 crore this year, along with development programs totaling Rs 39,300 crore.
Additionally, the Central government has approved the establishment of a Research Institute in Secunderabad to implement Kavach technology, aimed at improving train safety. This technology has already been successfully tested in several pilot projects.
