Hyderabad: BJP Telangana chief and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has spoken out against the State government’s Musi River Front Development Project (MRFDP). He claims that the project, meant for beautification, will involve demolishing the homes of poor people who live near the Musi River.
On Saturday, Kishan Reddy visited several areas along the Musi riverfront and met with the local residents. During a media briefing afterward, he criticized the government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, for its plan to demolish houses in the name of beautifying the area. According to him, this decision will leave many poor families homeless.
The Chief Minister has announced a budget of Rs 1.5 lakh crores for this beautification project. However, Kishan Reddy strongly opposes the demolition of homes and said that the BJP will stand by the affected people. He emphasized that in the past, the BJP helped with infrastructure projects like drainage systems, slum modernization, and road construction. They also assisted residents in getting Aadhaar and ration cards.
Kishan Reddy noted that the residents had not asked for new houses. Instead, they want support, and it is unfair to destroy homes that people have built over the years through their hard work. He assured the residents that the BJP is ready to fight for them and prevent the demolition.
He warned the government that if they attempt to move forward with the demolition, BJP leaders would be willing to go to jail if necessary. He said that the government’s bulldozers should “run over” BJP leaders first before destroying the homes of the poor.
Reddy also pointed out that former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao had a similar idea but did not pursue it aggressively. He urged the current Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, to reconsider the demolition plan and explore other ways to carry out the MRFDP.
Lastly, Kishan Reddy advised the government to focus on improving the drainage system and building a retaining wall before thinking about beautifying the riverfront.
