    Members of women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Khammam district are earning money by sewing school uniforms for the upcoming academic year. There are 1,220 SHG members involved in this work, with 120 women in urban areas and 1,100 women in rural areas.

    MEPMA identifies and employs SHG members in urban regions, while DRDA does the same in rural areas. The uniforms will be provided to district residential schools, gurukuls for SC, ST, and BC, as well as minority schools. The total number of students in government schools in the district is 2,48,837.

    Each uniform costs Rs 75 to make. SHG members like Sridevi and Swaroopa can earn between Rs 400 and Rs 600 a day. The District Collector has instructed for all uniforms to be ready by the schools’ reopening on June 12.

    In Kothagudem district, 1,26,677 meters of cloth is needed for uniforms for 63,399 students. As of May 20, 10,510 meters of cloth are still pending delivery. Cloth has been given to 93 Mahila Shakti Kuttu Kendrams in 23 mandals.
