On Sunday, a group of protesters waving separatist Khalistani flags attempted to grab the tricolour flying atop the Indian High Commission in London, resulting in a man’s arrest related to violent disorder. Officials from the mission reported that the attack was foiled and that the tricolour was now flying “grander”. The Metropolitan Police released a statement saying it was called to reports of disorder and broken windows at the High Commission building, with one man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. India has registered its strong protest with the British government over the safety of its diplomatic mission and questioned the lack of sufficient security at the premises. The MEA demanded an explanation for the complete absence of British security that allowed these elements to enter the High Commission premises, reminding the UK government of its basic obligations under the Vienna Convention. The banned terrorist organization, Sikhs For Justice, is conducting a so-called “Referendum 2020” amid a crackdown on pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh in Punjab.
