    Hyderabad:

The BRS leadership is planning to make changes to the party’s structure after January next year. President K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is expected to focus on reorganizing the party after the Sankranti festival.

Sources say that KCR will step back into public life after Sankranti and will hold meetings with senior leaders, including former ministers. During these meetings, he is likely to announce a membership drive and establish new committees before the party’s plenary meeting in April. Currently, there are no committees at the district level.

A senior leader pointed out that even prominent figures like T Harish Rao don’t have any official posts in the party. He is referred to only as a senior leader or former minister. Many party members are eager to have formal positions so they can better connect with the public. With the party not in power, the leadership needs to focus on assigning roles, including in affiliated units.

In 2022, the BRS had appointed district presidents and prioritized MLAs, MPs, and in-charges. However, only working presidents KT Rama Rao (KTR) and Harish Rao are actively involved in party activities, as KCR has stayed away from public appearances.

KTR has hinted at a possible reorganization of the party’s structure. In a recent interview, he mentioned that the party had been focused more on governance than party-building. He emphasized the importance of communicating the government’s work to the public through the party’s members, something he admitted the party hadn’t done well enough.

The party is also considering adopting the DMK model of organizational structure. A delegation from the BRS visited Chennai to study the DMK’s methods. It was noted that even younger generations, up to the third generation, were loyal to the DMK, with the younger members taking charge of the IT wing out of personal interest. BRS leaders believe that with some challenges ahead, the party will establish its committees after Sankranti.
