Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has instructed the state administration to resume the farmer loan waiver program starting tomorrow (August 3). The program will be implemented quickly and aims to finish by the second week of September.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the government faced challenges in completing the farmer loan waiver scheme due to factors such as demonetization, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the non-release of FRMB funds. To fully implement the loan waiver scheme and support farmers, an additional amount of Rs 19,000 crore is needed, in addition to the loans already waived.
KCR emphasized that the welfare and development of farmers in Telangana are top priorities for the state government. He assured that he will fulfill his promises for the benefit of farmers.
During a high-level review meeting at Pragati Bhavan, CM KCR discussed the steps to restart the farmer loan waiver program, considering the state’s economic situation. Finance Minister T Harish Rao, Chief Advisor to CM Somesh Kumar, Special Principal Secretary Finance Department Ramakrishna Rao, MA and UD Secretary Arvind Kumar, and Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao were present in the meeting.
Under the Crop Loan Waiver Scheme launched by the Telangana State Government, farmers in the state will receive benefits. If farmers are unable to repay their agricultural loans, the state government will waive off those loans. This will provide relief to farmers facing financial burdens and help them maintain their daily livelihoods. The loan waiver will be implemented in five phases, covering loans up to Rs 1 lakh taken by farmers.
