Kavitha's judicial custody extended until May 20, BRS MLC prepares to appeal to Delhi HC

The Delhi Court extended the judicial custody of BRS MLC K Kavitha until May 20. Kavitha was brought to the Rouse Avenue Court after her custody ended. The Enforcement Directorate officials said they will file a chargesheet against Kavitha in the Delhi Liquor Policy case in a week.

During the hearing, the judge extended Kavitha’s custody and her lawyer requested ten books for her. The lawyer also asked for permission for Kavitha to meet her family for 15 minutes and to eat food brought by him. The lawyer claimed Kavitha had been given stale food after being checked by security staff in jail. He asked for food to be checked by a doctor and jail official before being given to her.

The judge questioned why the lawyer wanted authorization for home-cooked meals when it had already been decided that they wouldn’t be provided. The judge said they would consider the request after speaking with the jail superintendent. Kavitha spoke to the media, expressing frustration at being arrested while others were let go.

Kavitha’s legal team plans to file a bail petition in the Delhi High Court, challenging the trial court’s decision. They are citing a provision in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act that allows bail for women.
