Hyderabad recently saw some dramatic events as BRS MLC K Kavitha, daughter of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. She was taken to Delhi for further proceedings. The BRS has called for protests across the state in response to her arrest. Kavitha will be produced before the ED magistrate on Saturday after undergoing medical tests in Delhi.

The ED team had been preparing to question Kavitha for about a week before her arrest. They conducted searches at her house for over five hours, seizing mobile phones and other items. The Supreme Court had granted her immunity from interrogation until Wednesday, but she still faced summons from the agency.

According to the Enforcement Directorate, Kavitha was allegedly involved in the ‘South Group’, which was implicated in the Delhi liquor policy scam. Other members of the group included Hyderabad businessman Sarath Reddy, YSR Congress Party MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, and his son Raghav Magunta Reddy. Sarath Reddy and Raghav Reddy have become approvers in the case.

The agency also mentioned that the group was represented by businessmen Arun Pillai and Abhishek Boinpally, along with chartered accountant Buchi Babu in their dealings.
