Streams in the erstwhile Karimnagar district are overflowing due to continuous rainfall since Thursday evening. This has caused disruptions in daily life, with power supply interruptions and road damage in many areas. People were advised to be vigilant in several villages. In Karimnagar city, water has accumulated in pits due to four days of rain, leading to mosquito breeding and foul smells from the death of pigs in many colonies. The Peddapally District Collector has ordered officials to remain alert and inspect areas affected by floods last year to prepare for relief measures if needed this year.
The water levels in the projects in the joint Karimnagar district have been rising due to the incessant rains. The Mid Manair Raju Rajeswara barrage’s water capacity has reached 15.4 tmc from 27.50 tmc, while the LMD’s capacity is currently at 15.8 tmc from 24.03 tmc. The Yellampalli Sripada project’s water capacity is currently at 15.17 tmc from 20.17 tmc.
Ramadugu mandal recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 21.35 cm, while Gangadhara received 14.38 cm. Heavy rainfall in Karimnagar city led to flooding in various areas, including Mukarampura, Jyotinagar, Ramnagar, Vidyanagar, Bus Stand, Collectorate Road, and Tirumala Nagar. The Jagitial-Vemulawada road was closed, causing traffic to come to a standstill at Satraj village.
Due to high rainfall in the Parvati (Sundilla) catchment area, floodgates were opened to release floodwater into the Godavari River. The former Minister and Manthani MLA, Duddulu Sridhar Babu, has been monitoring the situation and alerting officials.
