Jaggampeta MLA Jyothula Chanti Babu is expected to leave the YSR Congress Party and join the Telugu Desam Party. Chanti Babu used to be a member of the TDP and even served as the chairman of Yeleru project during their rule. However, he switched to the YSRCP in 2019 and won the elections as an MLA. Recently, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met with four MLAs from the Godavari districts and informed them that they would be replaced. Chanti Babu was one of those MLAs.
The YSRCP won 26 out of 32 Assembly constituencies in the Godavari districts in the 2019 elections, while the TDP only managed to win six seats. During the meeting, YS Jagan expressed his concern about the weak performance of the legislators and predicted their defeat in the upcoming elections. Chanti Babu is expected to join the TDP on January 5, 2024.
In addition to Chanti Babu, there are also rumors that Pithapuram MLA Pandem Dorababu and Prathipadu MLA Parvatha Prasad may be denied tickets by the YSRCP leadership. Recently, Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, who is closely associated with YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s family, resigned from the YSRCP citing personal reasons.
