Man Arrested for False Promise of Marriage and Caste-Based Discrimination
Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly exploiting a woman under the false promise of marriage and discriminating against her based on caste.
The accused, Pittu Srinivas Rao, an electrician from Madhapur, was taken into custody following a complaint filed by the victim. The woman, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste, claimed that Rao engaged in a relationship with her under the pretense of marriage but later refused to marry her due to her caste.
The incident took place in Venkatagiri, Yousufguda, Hyderabad, and the complaint was registered on February 4. Police booked the accused under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
After investigating the case, police confirmed the allegations and arrested Rao on Monday. His phone was seized as evidence, and he was presented before the court. The court remanded him to judicial custody, and he was sent to Central Prison, Chanchalguda.
Man Sentenced for Assaulting Minor in 2019
In a separate case, a local court sentenced a 23-year-old man to three years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2019.
The convict, Yasa Sumanth Reddy from Nalgonda, was found guilty of harassing the girl, taking money from her, sending inappropriate pictures, and even breaking into her house. Following the complaint, the Saroornagar police registered a case under IPC Sections 354-D and 420, along with Section 8 of the POCSO Act.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on the convict. The victim has also been awarded a compensation of ₹1 lakh.
