    Leprosy Awareness Campaign to Begin in Jogulamba District

    A meeting to discuss leprosy awareness was held on November 27, 2024, at the District Medical and Health Office (DMHO) in Jogulamba district. Dr. S.K. Siddappa, the District Medical and Health Officer, announced that the Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) will take place from December 2 to December 15, 2024, across the district.

    Dr. Siddappa emphasized the need for active involvement from ASHA nodal persons, supervisors, health workers, and ASHA workers. He instructed them to conduct door-to-door surveys as part of the campaign. To ensure thoroughness, he advised limiting surveys to no more than 20 houses per day, with all family members in each household being examined for symptoms of leprosy.

    The campaign will focus on identifying symptoms such as brick-red patches on the skin, numb or anesthetic spots, and lesions with thickened skin. If any signs of leprosy are found, the affected individuals will be referred to the nearest Primary Health Center (PHC) for diagnosis and treatment.

    Dr. Siddappa also appealed to the public to cooperate with the medical teams and actively participate in the campaign. He stressed the importance of early detection and treatment to eradicate leprosy from the district.

    The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Dr. Raju, Program Officer; PHC Medical Officers; Tirumal Reddy, ASO; and Narsayya, HA(M), among others.
