Hyderabad has become a safe place for JMM MLAs who are at risk of being poached by the BJP. This comes after a political crisis in Jharkhand following the arrest of former chief minister Hemant Soren. Even though Champai Soren has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister, he has 10 days to prove his strength in the Assembly. The JMM and the AICC believe that the BJP’s plan is to engage in horse trading and come to power through backdoor methods.

To ensure the safety of their MLAs, the JMM airlifted 39 members, including JMM, Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal members, to Hyderabad. They have been accommodated at Leonia Resort on the outskirts of the city. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has been given the responsibility of taking care of the guests, and the logistics were arranged by state in-charge Deepa Dash Munshi, Sampath, and K C Venugopal. The resort has booked 70 rooms for them.

In order to form the government, Champai Soren needs to prove that he has the support of at least 41 members in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly. The BJP claims to have the support of 44 MLAs, with 32 from their own party and three from All Jharkhand Students Union. They need six more members to achieve a majority. In light of this, the JMM, Congress, and RJD alliance are closely monitoring their MLAs’ movements and keeping a watchful eye for any attempts by the BJP to lure them away either directly or through phone calls.
