    External Affairs Minister Praises Odisha for Successful Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

    External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has thanked Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the state government for successfully hosting the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in Bhubaneswar. The event took place from January 8 to 10, 2025, and brought together members of the Indian diaspora from across the world.

    In a letter to Chief Minister Majhi, Jaishankar expressed his appreciation for the meticulous planning and execution of the event. He praised the Odisha government for its efforts in ensuring the grand success of the PBD convention. According to the minister, the hospitality provided to the attendees during the three-day program was widely admired by the diaspora members.

    Jaishankar highlighted the positive feedback received from participants regarding their experience in Odisha. He acknowledged the care and assistance extended to the guests during their stay and emphasized the important role played by the state government. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and other stakeholders involved in making the event a success.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the three-day event on January 9 at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. During the inauguration, he remotely flagged off the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train designed for the Indian diaspora. The event featured a grand showcase of Odisha’s art, culture, and heritage, marking the first PBD convention to be held in Eastern India. This aligned with the Government of India’s “Purvodaya” initiative, which focuses on the development of Eastern India.

    The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted Odisha’s historical maritime ties with Southeast Asia, stating that the PBD 2025 event renewed and strengthened these connections. The event also supported India’s “Act East Policy,” deepening ties with the global Indian diaspora. Delegates from over 75 countries attended the convention, making it a significant international gathering.

    Jaishankar concluded his letter by expressing hope for continued collaboration with Odisha on similar events in the future.
