Hyderabad: Telangana Congress working president T Jagga Reddy has denied reports that he wants to become an MLC. Instead, he has supported Jetti Kusum Kumar, who belongs to the Kamma caste, for the position.
Jagga Reddy shared that he has already suggested Kusum Kumar’s name to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, PCC working president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and some ministers. He also plans to recommend him to AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, Jagga Reddy said that the Congress might need support from the Kamma community, especially for the upcoming GHMC elections. He pointed out that Kusum Kumar has been a senior leader in the party and was appointed as working president when Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy was the PCC chief.
Jagga Reddy noted that leaders like A Revanth Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, who were also working presidents under Uttam Kumar Reddy, have now been given major roles as Chief Minister and Minister. He argued that Kusum Kumar should also be rewarded with at least an MLC post.
He further stated that Kusum Kumar’s elevation would help create more political opportunities in Hyderabad. He also suggested that other senior leaders like Kumar Rao, who has dedicated his life to the party, should be considered for an MLC position.
Jagga Reddy made it clear that he is not seeking an MLC post for himself. He said he is happy with the appointment of his wife, Nirmala Jagga Reddy, as the chairperson of Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.
