Jagga Reddy Criticizes BJP for Questioning Sonia Gandhi’s Commitment
Former MLA and TPCC working president T. Jagga Reddy has criticized BJP leaders for questioning Sonia Gandhi’s loyalty to India. He argued that such comments go against Indian cultural values. Speaking at a press conference, he specifically targeted Union Minister Bandi Sanjay for bringing up issues related to Sonia Gandhi’s caste and religion.
Reddy questioned whether BJP leaders truly understood Hindu traditions. He pointed out that Sonia Gandhi, though born in a foreign country, chose to make India her home after marrying Rajiv Gandhi, a Hindu Brahmin. He explained that, according to Indian culture, a woman who follows her husband and leaves her birth country takes on his religion and caste. Instead of appreciating her dedication, the BJP was turning it into a controversy, he said.
He also highlighted the contributions of the Gandhi family, stating that they have always risen above caste and religious divisions. He reminded people of their role in India’s independence struggle and the sacrifices they made for the country’s unity. He criticized BJP leaders, saying they were not part of the freedom movement and could never understand these sacrifices.
Talking about Sonia Gandhi’s political decisions, Reddy recalled that she refused the Prime Minister’s post despite having enough support from MPs. Instead, she chose Dr. Manmohan Singh for the position. He also credited her for supporting P.V. Narasimha Rao as Prime Minister. He questioned whether the BJP could ever make such sacrifices. He pointed out that even senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, who played a key role in the party’s rise, was sidelined.
Reddy urged Bandi Sanjay to maintain dignity in politics. He advised BJP leaders to avoid making disrespectful remarks about the Gandhi family and called for a more respectful political discussion.
