The Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit in Adilabad is facing serious problems. The central government does not want to revive the unit, which closed in 2008. The state government has also not done much to revive it.
The center has invited bids online to appoint valuers to assess the assets for disposal of plant, machinery, and structures. Even the quarters of the township were dismantled.
Locals in Tandur believe that there are unofficial irregularities, such as CCI purchasing cement clinkers from private companies in the state and getting rid of their own manufactured clinker by claiming it is not up to quality. Illegal attempts to sell CCI lands in Adilabad have also been reported.
Some CCI officials tried to sell the land illegally but were stopped by an alert sub-registrar. According to the rules, no disinvestment committee or local managers can sell PSU properties.
Employees also allege various irregularities, such as lower-level officials being appointed as managers without the required qualifications and retired managers being re-appointed in different departments. They are demanding a thorough investigation by the CCI headquarters and central probe agencies.
