Lucknow Super Giants beat Kolkata Knight Riders by one run in their final league game of IPL 2023 to secure a spot in the playoffs. This makes them the third team, after Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, to qualify for the playoffs. Nicholas Pooran scored 58 runs off 30 balls for LSG, helping them reach a total of 176 for eight after being sent in to bat. LSG lost wickets at regular intervals before Pooran and Ayush Badoni shared a partnership of 74 runs for the sixth wicket to lay the base for the total.
Chasing the target, Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten 67 off 33 balls while Jason Roy made 45 off 28 balls, but it was not enough as KKR could only manage 175 for seven. Ravi Bishnoi and Yash Thakur picked up two wickets each for LSG.
The match took place at Eden Gardens on May 20, 2023. For KKR, Shardul Thakur, Sunil Narine, and Vaibhav Arora scalped two wickets each. Krishnappa Gowtham played a short unbeaten cameo of 11 runs in four balls to give LSG bowlers something to defend.
In the end, Lucknow Super Giants secured a narrow victory and qualified for the playoffs.
