The Congress party in Ranga Reddy district is reflecting on its poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Despite strong campaigning and government support, the party faced defeats in Chevella and Mahbubnagar segments. Analysts blame this on groupism within the district leadership, which prevented the party from winning even in its strongholds.

Ranga Reddy district has eight Assembly segments, with Chevella, Maheshwaram, Rajendranagar, and Serilingampally falling under the Chevella LS segment. LB Nagar is in Malkajigry, Ibrahimpatnam in Bhongir, Kalwakurthy in Nagarkurnool, and Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar LS limits. Previously, Kalwakurthi, Nagarkurnul, and Shadnagar were part of Mahbubnagar district before being divided into Vikarabad and Nagarkurnool districts.

Despite being considered strongholds for the Congress, both Chevella and Mahbubnagar LS segments were won by BJP candidates in the recent elections. The Congress candidate in Chevella received significantly fewer votes than the BJP candidate, while in Mahbubnagar, the margin was narrower but still a loss for the Congress.

The Congress leadership in Ranga Reddy district is divided into several groups, especially in areas like Serilingampally, Rajendranagar, and Maheshwaram. This internal division is believed to have contributed to the party’s defeat in key constituencies. In Rajendranagar, in particular, the lack of strong leadership has led to a crisis within the party.

Despite efforts to revive the party in Rajendranagar, including involving senior leaders like Gyaneshwar Mudiraj, the Congress continues to struggle. The recent defeats in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections have highlighted the challenges faced by the party in the district.
