In Hyderabad, the Medipally Police, part of the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, stopped a child-selling gang, rescued 11 babies, and arrested 11 people. Among those arrested were eight women who had purchased children from three individuals in Delhi and Pune. The arrested individuals were from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The rescued babies, aged between one month and two-and-a-half months, included nine girls and two boys. The gang would obtain babies from suppliers in Delhi and Pune, selling them for prices ranging from Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh to couples in need of children in AP and Telangana. The police began investigating after the arrest of Shobharani, a registered medical practitioner, for selling a baby for Rs 4.5 lakh.
Following Shobharani’s arrest, Swapna and Shaik Saleem were also arrested, and two babies were rescued from them. The accused individuals have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act. Further investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspects and gather more information about the operation.
