The term of the current Vice Chancellors of nine Government Universities in Telangana is ending on May 21, leading to an increase in lobbying for the post. Over 1300 applications have been received and are being scrutinized by the ‘Search Committee’. Some present VCs are also seeking an extension for their post.

There is a high chance of changing the existing VCs, as numerous applications have been submitted for each position. Many of the current VCs were appointed by the previous government and some are facing serious allegations. The State Government is working to identify the most competent candidates. The efforts of current VCs to pressure officials are only making the situation more complicated. Principal Secretary (Education) Burra Venkatesham is managing the current scenario.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is closely monitoring the process led by the ‘search committee’, which is headed by Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari. The committee is in the process of finalizing names for the VC positions. The government is expected to announce the new VCs once the Election Code is lifted, and they will be officially appointed by the Governor.
