The 89th anniversary general meeting of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) opened on Wednesday. Around 200 fellows and associate fellows gathered for the three-day meeting, which is being organized by the CSIR institutes including the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), and the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI). The meeting will conclude on December 8 and will address challenges and opportunities in connecting science, industry, and society.
Professor Ashutosh Sharma, President of INSA, expressed hopes that the meeting would allow leaders from scientific institutions and industry in India to discuss how to utilize their expertise and capabilities to make scientific discoveries and address societal problems. He also mentioned that new fellows inducted into the academy would bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
Dr. VM Tiwari, co-chair of the meeting and outstanding scientist at CSIR-NGRI, highlighted that the INSA AGM provides a platform to discuss recent scientific developments and enhance the Indian research ecosystem. This year’s meeting is unique as it is organized by three well-known CSIR laboratories representing biological, chemical, and physical sciences, which will encourage potential research collaborations.
Dr. Vinay K Nandicoori, Director of CSIR-CCMB, emphasized the importance of such platforms in bringing together newly inducted fellows, associate fellows, and established scientists. He stated that these discussions enable the exchange of ideas across generations for the advancement of the scientific community.
