Teacher Inspires Future Innovators in Telangana

Teachers play a vital role in shaping society by guiding young minds towards a brighter future. Some educators go the extra mile, leaving a lasting impact on their communities. One such inspiring teacher is Thaduri Sampath Kumar, a Physics teacher at Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Dammannapet, Sircilla district of Telangana. His remarkable efforts showcase innovation, dedication, and perseverance.

Sampath Kumar, 46, has been teaching for over 22 years. His ambitious vision is to nurture 100 grassroots innovators by the end of his career. So far, he has mentored 55 students whose unique innovations have gained both national and international recognition. These efforts align with his dream of contributing to a self-reliant India.

In his classroom, creativity thrives. Sampath Kumar introduced the “Innovation Idea Box,” where students submit ideas to solve real-world problems. This initiative has led to the creation of inventions like a welder-friendly helmet, a user-friendly cooking aid called “Mahila Vanta Mithra,” a smart water bottle, and an air purifier. Organizations such as the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), T-Hub, and Bosch have recognized these projects. NIF has granted patent rights for the “Common Man Friendly Helmet,” while Bosch has shown interest in marketing the Mahila Vanta Mithra. Additionally, T-Hub is working to commercialize three student projects.

Although Sampath Kumar once dreamed of joining the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore, he now focuses on inspiring young minds. “My dream was to become a scientist. Now, I aim to mould students who can transform the nation,” he says.

    Recognition and Achievements

Sampath Kumar’s dedication has earned him prestigious awards, including the National Best Teacher Award (2024), the South India Science Fair 1st Prize (2024), and the Educational Rockstar Award (2023). His students have also been recognized, winning 15 national and seven international awards, including honors at Japan’s Sakura Exchange Program.

    Contributions Beyond the Classroom

In addition to teaching, Sampath Kumar has contributed to e-learning by creating content for the DIKSHA portal, authoring science textbooks, and introducing online teaching tools. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he facilitated remote learning through T-SAT and raised Rs 15,00,000 to support school development.

Recognized on platforms like T-SAT and Harbingers of Change (2024), Sampath Kumar exemplifies how a dedicated teacher can transform education. His ongoing efforts to mentor grassroots innovators continue to inspire others, proving the powerful impact of education on society.
