Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava paid a visit to Nepalese Foreign Minister N P Saud on Sunday. Saud, who is a leader of Nepali Congress, was recently sworn in as foreign minister ahead of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s planned visit to India. Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar congratulated Saud on his appointment via Twitter and expressed his desire to work together to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
During his visit, Srivastava conveyed Jaishankar’s message to Saud. Prime Minister Prachanda had been holding the foreign minister position until Nepali Congress made a nomination. As per their power-sharing agreement, Nepali Congress was responsible for recommending a leader for the post. Prachanda is scheduled to visit India in the coming weeks.
