Mahabubnagar: The Palamuru region, especially Mahabubnagar district, is dealing with a big rise in viral diseases this past month. Many more patients are going to the Government General Hospital in Mahabubnagar for help.
The hospital has noticed a significant increase in patient numbers. Daily outpatient visits have jumped from 1,500-1,700 to 2,000-2,200. This increase shows that there is a serious outbreak of viral illnesses, leading many people to seek treatment at the government hospital.
Hospital authorities have observed that patients show symptoms similar to Dengue, Chikungunya, Typhoid, and other fevers. In the past week alone, 1,264 children and 1,823 adults have registered at the hospital. Out of these, 14 children and 13 adults have tested positive for Dengue. Additionally, 27 children and 86 adults have been diagnosed with other viral fevers. The hospital has also admitted 97 children and 80 adults with diarrhea.
Dr. Sampath Kumar Singh, the Hospital Superintendent, explained that the recent heavy rains are causing the rise in viral fever cases. He said the rainy season helps mosquitoes and other disease carriers to thrive. “Diseases during the rainy season are expected. There is a concern about the increase in mosquito-borne diseases like Dengue and Malaria, as well as typhoid and other waterborne illnesses. We advise residents to keep their surroundings clean, drink only boiled water, and avoid eating outside junk food,” Dr. Singh stated.
As the region continues to face these health issues, local authorities and healthcare workers are focusing on preventing the spread of these diseases and raising public awareness.
Hospital authorities have notified doctors not just in the General Hospital but also in Urban and Primary Health Center (PHC) level hospitals. They advised all doctors and hospital staff to conduct tests for patients showing symptoms of Dengue, Malaria, and other viral fevers.
Dr. K Krishna, the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) of Mahabubnagar, stated, “We have alerted not only the hospital staff and doctors across all the PHCs in the district, but also ensured that all necessary equipment and facilities are ready in advance. This preparation is to ensure we can provide platelets if any dengue patient requires them at the district hospital.”
