Telangana Special Police Strike Raises Questions
The Telangana Special Police (TGSP) are currently protesting across the state, raising concerns about their working conditions and the duties they are assigned. The constables are asking for better policies and working conditions, especially regarding the challenging tasks they are required to perform. One of the main issues is the use of TGSP personnel as orderlies, and many are wondering if the state government will address this.
The Director-General of Police, Jitender, has responded to the situation by assuring that the concerns of the TGSP will be reviewed sympathetically. However, he also stressed that indiscipline within uniformed forces is a serious matter, with legal consequences. He urged the constables and their families to be patient while the authorities look into their complaints. Despite this, some constables have already been suspended for participating in the ongoing strike, yet the protests continue.
In response to the growing unrest, the police have implemented special security measures, particularly at the residence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the State Secretariat. Intelligence reports have warned of potential incidents, prompting the police to replace TGSP personnel at the Chief Minister’s residence with Armed Reserve (AR) police. The TGSP officers who were previously stationed there were reportedly planning to go on a sudden strike and have been ordered to report to the head office immediately. They have also been instructed to return to their respective battalions.
In another move, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the State Secretariat directed TGSP officers on duty to exit WhatsApp groups related to the ongoing protest. The police personnel were told to delete any such groups they were managing and were warned of strict action if any anti-government messages were shared in other groups. Furthermore, the CSO revealed that the mobile numbers of the TGSP personnel are being closely monitored.
To maintain calm in the city, Section 144 has been imposed in Hyderabad, banning rallies, protests, and demonstrations until November 28. Officials stated that the security of important figures, including ministers and senior MLAs, is also under heightened surveillance.
