In Hyderabad, important information about Maoist activities and data on major criminals was destroyed by former SIB DSP Praneeth Rao. He damaged 42 hard disks from 17 computers on December 4, throwing them into a river and forest area. This resulted in the loss of crucial data collected by the SIB, including old Maoist-related information, with no possibility of recovery.
The investigation also involves Convergence Innovation Labs, whose CEOs may be questioned regarding the equipment provided. It was discovered that during CM A Revanth Reddy’s time as Leader of the Opposition, phone-tapping occurred at a guest house near his residence. The police searched the guest house, owned by BRS MLC Naveen Rao, and found that Praneet Rao’s team used it for phone-tapping. Naveen Rao denied the accusations and plans to take legal action against the allegations.
Allegedly, Additional SP Bhujanga Rao conducted the tapping operation from the guest house near Revanth’s residence. The police are looking into information obtained from the suspects in the case. Phone-tapping centers and monitoring centers were discovered in various locations including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, VT Colony in Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, and Warangal districts. In Khammam district, a tapping center was identified at Nelakondapally guest house. The investigation revealed threats made to prevent tapping from constable to DCP level, with four constables already in custody related to the case.
Furthermore, the police found that women were also harassed through phone-tapping. A constable in Nalgonda had reportedly victimized and blackmailed around 40 women after eavesdropping on their phone conversations.
