**Hyderabad:** The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in five districts of Telangana over the next two days. These districts are Karimnagar, Peddapally, Jayashankar, Mulugu, and Bhadradri Kothagudem.

Senior IMD official Sravani mentioned that about 20 cm of rainfall is expected due to a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal turning into a depression. This low-pressure area, which developed in coastal Andhra and southern Odisha, will cause heavy to very heavy rains at night.

An orange alert has been issued for the north-eastern districts of Telangana, including Komaram Bheem-Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Nirmal, and nearby areas, where 19 cm of rainfall is expected.

The low-pressure area is expected to hit the coastline on Saturday, bringing heavy rain to Adilabad, Mancherial, Peddapally, Karimnagar, Bhupalapally, and Mulugu. Hyderabad, the state capital, will also experience rainfall, mainly during the evenings. This weather pattern is likely to continue for the next three days in the city.

The IMD reported that the southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Telangana, with very heavy rainfall occurring in isolated places in Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Jayashankar-Bhupalapally, Komaram Bheem-Asifabad, Mancherial, Mulugu, and Pedapally districts. A few places in Jagtial and isolated places in Siddipet district also experienced heavy rain.

The rainfall has caused panic among villagers in Adilabad and Mancherial districts. Reports indicate that the Tumtunga Project bridge in Yedulabandam village in Kotapally mandal of Mancherial district was washed away due to overflowing water from the project. This has disconnected commuting to 15 villages as the main road was washed away in the floods.

Adilabad saw heavy rain, resulting in floodwater entering houses in Kagaznagar. A lake bund was breached, causing waterlogging in nearby areas. Additionally, the water flow in rivers like Wardha and Pranahita increased after heavy rain in the upstream areas of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The floodwater is now entering the Kadem reservoir.
