Hyderabad Water Board Cracks Down on Illegal Sewerage Connection

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) took action on Saturday against a restaurant in Mehdipatnam for illegally establishing a sewerage connection without the necessary permissions. The restaurant’s illegal connection was removed by the authorities.

Officials revealed that the restaurant, located under the jurisdiction of Water Board O&M Division-3, had connected to a 250 mm diameter sewerage pipeline without approval. This caused excessive sewage discharge, leading to frequent overflows on the main road, creating inconvenience for the public.

Ashok Reddy, Managing Director of HMWSSB, urged residents and business owners to regularize any illegal drainage or sewerage connections. He also emphasized that establishments such as hospitals, hotels, bakeries, malls, and other commercial or multi-storey buildings must install silt chambers to prevent blockages and sewage overflow.
