Illegal Sand Mining Rampant in Mahabubnagar

Illegal sand mining is reportedly taking place without any checks in Rakonda Vaagu, a key water source linked to the Koilsagar Dam in Koilkonda mandal, Mahabubnagar district. According to local sources, over 50 to 60 truckloads of sand are being transported daily to areas in Narayanpet and Mahabubnagar districts.

The sand mafia is allegedly operating with the support of officials from the revenue, mining, and police departments. These illegal activities are happening openly during the daytime, with no significant action being taken to stop them. As a result, a vital natural resource is being depleted, and the state government is suffering major financial losses.

Social activist Diddi Praveen Kumar from Mahabubnagar has raised serious concerns about the issue. He stated that the unchecked sand mining is robbing the government of valuable resources that could have been used for public welfare. “The lack of action by authorities is encouraging these illegal miners, causing lasting environmental harm and economic losses,” he warned.
