The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) demolished illegal structures near Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s home in Lotus Pond. These structures, built for Jagan’s security, were encroaching on the road and causing inconvenience to the public.

GHMC officials took this action in response to public complaints with the aim of restoring public access. Local residents were happy with the demolition as it helped ease traffic congestion. However, Jagan’s supporters argued that the structures were important for his safety.

Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party, YSR Congress Party, lost the recent Assembly elections. The GHMC’s actions are seen as related to the election results since Jagan is no longer the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The level of security needed for a former CM is not considered as high as for a sitting CM.
