The Telangana government has allocated over ₹17,600 crore for urban infrastructure and development projects in Hyderabad in the 2025-26 budget. This investment aims to support the city’s rapid growth, driven by IT expansion and government initiatives.
Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted that Telangana is one of the fastest urbanizing states in India. To manage urban challenges, the government has introduced the H-CITI plan, which focuses on improving infrastructure and easing traffic congestion.
In the first phase of development, the government has started constructing 31 flyovers, 17 underpasses, and 10 road expansion projects. These projects will cost around ₹7,032 crore. Additionally, ₹150 crore has been allocated for beautification projects across the city.
The Musi Riverfront Development Project is another key initiative. It focuses on restoring the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs by supplying them with water from the Godavari River. This will help maintain the ecological balance and ensure a steady water supply. In 2024, the Water Board also launched projects to improve water quality, including the construction of four sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a total capacity of 20 million liters per day (MLD).
To speed up major projects like the Metro Rail Expansion, Regional Ring Road, and the New Osmania Hospital Building, the government has introduced the SPEED program. This initiative ensures that 19 key projects are completed efficiently and on time.
The ORR Phase-2 Water Supply Project is nearing completion, ensuring a reliable drinking water supply within the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits. To prevent urban flooding, the government has approved a ₹5,942 crore Integrated Stormwater Drainage Project. This will help manage floods and prevent waterlogging in the city.
Apart from Hyderabad, the government is investing ₹4,500 crore to develop newly established municipalities and urban development authorities across Telangana. This three-year plan will create essential infrastructure for well-planned and sustainable cities.
The government is also focusing on the development of tier-2 cities like Warangal, Nizamabad, and Khammam. Warangal is being transformed into a hub for education, healthcare, and IT, while Nizamabad and Khammam will focus on agriculture-based industries and manufacturing.
These projects reflect Telangana’s commitment to modern urban development, sustainable infrastructure, and improving the quality of life for its residents.
