HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath recently visited Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu in Serlingampally, Chandnagar, located in Ranga Reddy district. The visit followed a complaint from local MLA Arekapudi Gandhi, who reported that five acres of the water body had been illegally occupied. Commissioner Ranganath assured that action would be taken to protect the lake from encroachment. He also mentioned that cases had been filed earlier against illegal dumping in the area, and complaints had been lodged with the police.
In December 2023, authorities received complaints about dumping activities, and immediate action was taken. However, despite these efforts, illegal dumping has continued in recent months. As a result, new cases have been filed at the Chandnagar police station. To tackle this issue, the government and the Chief Minister are working on setting up a dedicated police station to handle such cases.
Commissioner Ranganath explained that dumping is often the first step in encroaching on a water body. Construction debris is brought in and spread over the area, making it easier for illegal structures to be built later. Many of these constructions happen without proper approvals.
To stop this, the HYDRAA Police Station will not only prevent trucks from dumping debris but will also investigate the involvement of businessmen and landowners in these activities. Officials will track where the debris is coming from and seize the vehicles used for dumping. While local police stations have been filing complaints and taking action, the problem persists.
Authorities are determined to find the root cause of the issue and hold those responsible accountable. In the meantime, local police have been seizing vehicles involved in illegal dumping. In the last two months, the Disaster Relief Force (DRF) has confiscated 10 to 15 such vehicles. Officials are committed to taking legal action against offenders and pursuing necessary court proceedings to protect the water body.
