Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRA) Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected Gangaram Lake on Thursday. His visit focused on identifying areas where debris was being illegally dumped and preventing further environmental damage.

During the inspection, Commissioner Ranganath mentioned that cases had already been filed against individuals responsible for dumping soil in the lake. He highlighted that with the establishment of the HYDRA police station, authorities would take strict action against those encroaching on water bodies.

To address the issue, the Commissioner announced plans to hold a meeting with officials from various departments. He urged people claiming ownership of the land to provide proper documents for verification.

Commissioner Ranganath reassured the public that steps would be taken to stop illegal soil dumping in Gangaram Lake. He encouraged corporate and voluntary organizations to contribute to lake restoration through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.

He also stressed that lake development should go beyond beautification and focus on complete restoration and long-term sustainability.

The Outer Ring Road area originally had 1,025 lakes, but 61% of them have disappeared due to encroachments and urban expansion. Commissioner Ranganath emphasized that protecting the remaining 39% is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation from citizens, government bodies, and private organizations.

HYDRA is currently working on the full development of several lakes, including Sunnam Cheruvu, Tammidikunta Cheruvu, Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu, Uppal Nalla Cheruvu, Bum-Rukh-Ud-Daula Lake, and Bathukamma Kunta.
