Shahnaz Tabassum, the wife of TS Waqf Board CEO and a Supreme Court advocate, will be contesting from the Hyderabad Parliament constituency on a Congress ticket. Her name was chosen recently, bypassing other contenders for the ticket. Some party sources believe her selection was influenced by the Chief Minister’s relationship with Asaduddin Owaisi.

Tabassum, a lawyer with 12 years of experience, is determined to challenge AIMIM in the constituency. In a letter to AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, she expressed her belief that Hyderabad is ready for a change and that Congress is the only option for this change. She plans to campaign vigorously against AIMIM and has made financial arrangements for the election.

Her candidacy has surprised many party seniors who observed that Congress did not win any constituencies in the recent Assembly polls. They also mentioned that during the Assembly polls, candidates under the Parliament constituency were not competitive.
