A 25-year-old student from Hyderabad who had been missing since last month was found dead in Cleveland, USA. Mohammad Abdul Arfath, from Nacharam, Hyderabad, went to the US in May last year to study IT at Cleveland University.
The Consulate General of India in New York expressed sadness at Arfath’s death and is working with local authorities for a thorough investigation. They are also helping to bring his body back to India. Arfath had been missing since March, and police had concerns for his safety.
Arfath’s university records showed he was no longer a registered student as of January 2024. The Cleveland State University Police Department is assisting in the investigation of his disappearance. Arfath’s father last spoke to him on March 7, and since then, he has not been in touch with his family.
Arfath’s roommates reported him missing to the police, and later his family received a call demanding ransom for his release. His parents have requested the Indian government’s help in finding and bringing back their son safely. This incident adds to a series of worrying cases involving Indian students in the US.
